And it's Done...Shearing that is!

We got ‘er done!

Our crew consisted of me, my son, and friends Laurette, Sherry, and Raquel, along with our two shearers, Katherine and Sophie. This is the smallest crew I’ve had for a shearing ever, but we made it work! The date changes threw everyone off this year.

We started a bit after 8am, and were done by noon and eating some really good venison chili, corn bread, mac and cheese, cole slaw, bread, cookies, pie, and adult beverages.

33 fleeces off my sheep and two from Raquel’s, who were up visiting for the event.

Most of my sheep are still in the barn. The rams were being buttheads, so we took them back to their pen except for Tally, who we are treating for another abscess. So he’s staying in the barn for a bit to heal and be left alone by the other two turds.

I have coats washing now, and I think I have enough coats that are not needing to be repaired so I can coat the rest of the flock and turn them back out. We also check and trim feet before they leave the confines of the barn.

Next big events will be lambing, which comes in mid May this year.
