Catching Up on the Week
Hello dear readers! Welcome back to the farm! I hope this finds you all hale and hearty!
Welcome to the new folks! The sheepies are glad to have you join us, and hope that you are up for giving neck skitches and feeding them treats.
Miss Bogas aka little bug, stopped for skitchies on her way to the water tank.
By the way, I am 40 subscribers away from hitting the 1K mark! I would be grateful for your shares of my page so I might hit that number! Thank you!
Firstly, I seem to have survived the creeping crud that hit the farm last week. My recent hagfish days are over. Although, per my normal, it has morphed into another bout of bronchitis. Yeah me! One of the joys of a respiratory system that has gone to hell one me.
I sure don’t bounce back as well as I use to. This getting old shit sucks.
The sheep decided to be naughty two weeks ago, and got thru the fence (again) into another neighbor’s yard. They have been pretty much on lockdown since then. I don’t dare let them into my pasture at the moment and have this guy mad at me. The plan is for this coming Saturday to try and get that entire section of fence covered with woven wire. Boy child is enlisting the help of some of his work buddies to get this done in exchange for a steak lunch.
The one benefit of having them on lockdown is that my pasture has had time to grow some grass. We got a bit of moisture and it seems to be getting things kicked off in that regard. Of course, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fenceline, and probably always will be. Now if it would rain more and warm up some, that would be great!
They are operating as my organic lawnmowers until I can get the actual lawnmower fixed. The kill switch on it crapped out so it won’t start.
The shawl I am/was knitting was a bust. I made a rookie mistake and did not calculate my handspun yardage and came up way short. My bad. I got about 3/4 of the way thru though the first lace set when the realization that I screwed up became evident.
I did contact the lady I got the roving from, and she did not have any more. She contacted the company she got the roving from and found that it is a discontinued colorway. So I frogged it back. Now to be on the hunt for something else that strikes my fancy to spin for that particular pattern. And this time I’ll figure out my yardage before I start.
In the meantime, I found another shawl pattern that will work for the yardage I do have.
I did try a different way of making my favorite croquettes this week. I had left over pot roast and mashed potatoes that got converted into them.
If you missed my prior post on making croquettes, you can find it here in Grandma's Cookbook
Instead of using a white sauce, I ran the roast thru the food processor, mixed in the potato and a handful of shredded cheese, to get a mass that would stick together, then cooked as in the above link. We had those with spätzle, green beans and gravy. Sorry, I don’t have a picture of the actual dinner this time. I was too busy eating while it was hot.
I didn’t cook off all the meat last night, and finished that part this morning, and here are those results. There is enough left over for me to take to work for lunches for several days. They came out super yummy!
I have a game for you this time around. Can you identify this kitchen object? It is 4” tall and 4” around at the base. Put your answers in the comments and next week I’ll post the answer and pictures of it in action! I’m looking forward to your guess’s but I won’t confirm or deny them until next week!!
I hope you all have a good week!
Blessed Be!

Your paid membership or donation to the farm goes to support the sheep here. Every dollar goes back into the animals in some way. Either thru hay purchase, shearing, the occasional vet bill, or the extras they need such as floating tank heaters, coats, minerals, or salt blocks.
I am grateful for your financial support to help keep the farm going. Thank you for your blessing!

Please tell us everything that will be included in the steak lunch!
The croquettes look awesome, can't help but remember putting meat into a blender when the kids were babies! Yuck!
Yay to the boy for helping with the fence
Love and hugs to you both!
