Curd-splosion
Hello dear readers! Thanks for stopping by this week. Welcome to the new folks. The sheep would love to have you hand feed them treats. Watch out for the teeth!
My friend Sherri and I went out to see “The Sheep Detectives” last Friday. It was wonderful, fun, touching, and yes, it also made me cry. I highly recommend this movie and be sure to bring your hankie! They did a great job with the computer built sheep.
It was a week of visitors around here. Last weekend we got to babysit the neighbors bottle calf-lette while they attended an out-of-town event. It was so fun to have a baby cow around again. He was a whippy little guy with lots of sass and attitude. It was so funny to have him charge at me like he was going to run me over with his little body. Overall he was a good boy, and we subjected him to lots of touching and skitchies so he might be easier to handle long term. My neighbor was going to try to graft him onto another mama cow, but I don’t know if that worked or not. I was sad to see him go.

The other visitor that showed up down the road from me just a little bit was a young cinnamon black bear that was raiding trash cans. I did not actually get to see him in person, so the pics are from another neighbor. They said he had no fear of people, and that’s a bad thing. He disappeared and has not been seen locally since. I saw on FB that one showed up in Montana that looks suspiciously like the one that was here.

The last visitor that has made a reappearance is the mountain lion. I’ve heard that he/she has already attacked two goats, also not far from me. As of now because I have no graze in my pasture (thank you no rain!) and the fact that my sheep are bothering the neighbors, they are in the corral being fed hay. They are also with 3 100+ pound guardian dogs. It would have to be a very desperate predator willing to crawl in with them.
We did get a small bit of rain last weekend, and again mid-week. We also got hit with frost and it looks like my lilacs are done for the year now. All the buds and flowers are dead. I’m not so sure that little bit of moisture will do much for getting my pasture to grow. I’m resigning myself to having to feed out hay for the whole next year at this point in time. Hay prices are going to be really high this year. Ugh.
I have another recipe for the “Favorite Food From A Movie or TV Show” theme!
I found another cookbook! Yeah, I do have a problem.
This one is “The Official Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea Cookbook” I found it on Amazon.
One of the recipes that caught my attention is the Lemon Tarts.
I also made a strawberry curd, which was a total pain in the ass to make. I had to run it thru 3 different sized sieves to get the strawberry pulp to go thru, and even then, I did end up with some seeds in it. If you want the recipe, let me know and I can write it out next week.
The tarts sure turned out wonderful, sweet and tangy at the same time. The pastry was nice and crisp, buttery, and just good! My involuntary taste testers at work enjoyed the heck out of them. These are definitely something I will make again.
I still have quite a bit of both curd’s left over for nibbling.
Have you found a recipe from a favorite movie or tv show you would share with us? I would love to hear if you have taken up this challenge!
Blessed Be!

Your paid membership or donation to the farm goes to support the sheep here. Every dollar goes back into the animals in some way. Either thru hay purchase, shearing, the occasional vet bill, or the extras they need such as floating tank heaters, coats, minerals, or salt blocks. This year, hay is going to be a big expense for us.
I am grateful for your financial support to help keep the farm going. Thank you for your blessing!

Baby cow! Too cute! The tarts look yummy! Love you!
