Hello dear readers! I hope you all had a happy and blessed thanksgiving!
I finally got internet back! Seriously looking into other options for service at this time. After the issues with Huges net this year, I am not a satisfied customer any longer. Starlink is the current front runner at this time.
It was quite here, just Michael and myself. Did the daily chores, ate some food, and just took it easy for the day.
Michael asked for meatloaf and mashed tatties, and I added in green beans sauteed in bacon and sourdough bread. I also made a pan of cinnamon rolls for breakfast as per our family tradition. We bounced back and forth between cinnamon and pecan sticky buns, which were Rob’s favorite.
What did you have this Thanksgiving?
It’s been a sad-ish week here, I am missing Lucy’s sassy self here. She is just one more physical link to Rob that is now gone except for the memories. I do have her fleece from this years shearing to hang on to. This, combined with missing Rob, and another Thanksgiving without him, has made it a tough week for me. Lots of tears have been shed.
The rest of the flock is doing well. We are getting ready for 2 visiting ewes to arrive tomorrow to be bred to Douglas. The barn is ready for them, and we will move Doug in the morning. He will get a new coat on, and a marking harness, plus a hoof trim. Can’t have him tearing the girls up with gnarly toes! Nobody likes that! Fingers crossed this goes according to plan! I sure don’t need loose sheep running around that don’t belong to me!
The same thing has been going on with the rest of the flock. Coat changes, toe trims, eye wool trims. Washing coats, fixing coats, the cycle of life goes on.
Winter has indeed arrived here. Keeping the stock tanks clear of ice is an ongoing chore. My existing tank heaters have crapped out on me, and the only working one is in the boys tank at the moment. Once Doug goes into the barn and his buddy Rudah is out with the flock, I’ll snag that one for the other tanks.
The local farm stores are out of stock at the moment. Got one friend looking for a new one, and Michael is out on the hunt again today. These things either last for 10 years or quit after using them for 5 minutes. It’s a serious pain in the backside.
There has been a herd of deer hanging out lately. They came in and cleaned up all the fallen leaves around the house over the past few weeks. Mostly doe’s and one spike buck. It’s fun to watch them moving around. They get use to me going in and out of the house and will listen when I talk to them. So far they have left my hay alone but do take advantage of the stock tanks for their water. Turkeys too, Michael said there were 3 of them indulging their thirst just this morning.
Seeing these guys hanging around usually means the predators have moved off to greener hunting pastures. Always a good thing for the sheep!
