I’m not much feeling the writing urge today, but I wanted to give you all something to peruse. It’s been a rough weekend for me, so we will leave it at that.
I have some game cameras put up around the property. It helps me to keep track of our predator load mainly, but I also get some good pics of other wildlife wandering around the place, plus the sheep and horses. I’ve seen deer, turkeys, birds, and a bobcat once. No elk have wandered in front of the cameras to date, but I have seen signs of them on the property.
Here’s a few recent shots.
Our resident flock of wild turkeys.
A beautiful buck and his pretty doe
Some sheep butts.
And the ponies. My boy is pretty scrawny, he has Cushing’s disease, and it’s kicking him hard.
And one wild house wolf.
The coyotes have been pretty scarce this summer, which is a good thing. However, they did make an appearance twice on the cameras two weeks ago. I am hearing them more often in the mornings. They were quite vocal today. The rabbit population is higher this year than last, so I hope there will be enough natural game for them to feed on and they will leave the sheep alone. I do have 5 livestock guardian dogs though to deal with them.
We have had wolf sightings in this area a few years ago. I’m sure they are moving in. I also saw a report of wolf sightings in a town two hours south of us. It was inevitable that they would make their way here.
I hope you enjoyed this peek into my farm!
Blessed Be.
BIG turkeys! Do you hunt your own? Beautiful deer and nicely maintained sheep coats :-D
I lost my dear Arabian gelding and my sweet Bassett Hound, Roger, to Cushing's. It's a mean and insidious condition. Hugs to you Judy!
