I’ve been on a hat kick lately. Don’t know why, but sometimes it happens.
I just have to knit hats.
It’s a compulsion.
An obsession.
I’m on my 4th one so far in the past 3 weeks.
I got two recreated and adapted French Voyager hats, and one Navy watch cap done, and I’m on my 3rd French Voyager hat.
I say recreated and adapted. I found a pattern some years ago, but when I made it, it was far too small to fit on anything except maybe a cat’s head.
After much trial and error, I finally hit upon the magic combination of needle size, yarn size, and row counts, it fit on my Rob’s head. It doesn’t pop off his head, it’s nice and snug, and he was very happy with it!
Plus he looks good in it!
Can you say compulsion?
Can you say obsession?
Two of the three I finished went to live with friends last week. The other finished one, and the one currently on the needles will be up for sale shortly.
They are hand processed, hand spun 3-ply, and hand knit from my sheep’s fiber. These are from Leo, so they are moorit in color.
It took about 7 hours to spin the yarn and I can usually knit a hat start to finish in about 10 hours.
It’s a zen thing for me.
I can binge a tv series, currently its The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, spin or knit, and tune out the entire world.
Quite frankly, it helps me keep my sanity. Too many stressors in my head lately. Even a brief break is a good thing now.
If you are following me on the new substack notes feature, and I hope you are, I’m sure you have seen a few pics with no explanation. I thought giving you all a snippet of something I see that catches my eye and would be interesting to you. I hope to have a new pic daily of whatever looks cool to share with you from around the farm.
FYI the notes feature is on the substack app, and on the web version of the site.
Thank you to all my readers who helped to garner me over 1100 views on my shearing post. That is an all-time high for me!! I am grateful for your support!
Good grief, how do you spin three bobbins of yarn, and ply the yarn in 7 hours? Impressive!
Bet that hat is warmer than a toasted marshmallow.
Lordy, how I love a good hat pattern, and well spun yarn.
