Good day to you dear readers!
It’s been a busy morning around here. Not only with the normal daily chores, but I had a gentleman stop by who wanted to look at a calf tilt table that I have and may be buying it. I was taking advantage of Michael going into to work later today. He hung around here while the gentleman was looking at the tilt table so I would not be alone here with a stranger to us. Safety first!!
I also needed to move some hay up by the corral for the “stay in” critters. I am very glad my tractor decided to start, considering that it does not like the colder mornings we have been having. Unfortunately, it did decide to run out of gas in the middle of all this. Just my luck! Thankfully Michael helped heft the 5gal can up to the top of the tractor and poured it in for me. He’s a good kid!
Got hay moved, got chores done, got gentleman sent off to think about buying over the holiday.
Course having my routine changed up does throw me for a loop LOL! Trying to get myself back on track was a comedy of errors. I think I spent three times more time walking around in circles and getting only a small number of things done.
Let me go down to close the gate, up to let the sheep out, dang it, forgot to get the dog food out, I should feed the boys first, crud Michael already did, cripe get the gate shut, shoot Lucy’s mash is still in the house, gotta run the house wolf, let’s let the sheep out, crud forgot the dog food again, I should feed Brandy horse and the barn boys first, geeze, still forgot Lucy’s mash, ok, let the sheep out, dang it, dog food again, ugh, barn boys need fresh hay.
You get the drift.
But done it is. I even got a load of wood into the overhang and enough in the house for a day or two.
You would never know that starting tonight we are expecting the first big storm of the winter. They are predicting up to 8” of snow for us. Right now, it’s sunny, warmish, and I have all the windows in the house open.
I’ll be making the stuffing and pies in just a bit here for tomorrow. Pumpkin is what was requested this year, so pumpkin it shall be.
Michael and I are doing the traditional turkey, stuffing, mashed tatties, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, and rolls. Nothing fancy, but good none the less.
I have been keeping my ears open locally for anybody who was going to be alone on Thanksgiving so that I could invite them to share with us. It seems that everyone in my town had a place to go this year. I’m glad that everyone will have a meal in a warm place, especially with this storm coming in.
I am missing my Rob very much this week. He so loved these holidays. I know he is here in spirit. I miss his blissful face when he gets a big bite of turkey and gravy. Hell, I miss him no matter what.
Mr Rudah is doing well with his foot issue. He is walking limp free at the moment. We will unwrap and check his hoof Friday or Saturday and re-wrap it for him to keep healing. He and Mr Tally have come to an agreement not to beat each other up while in the barn, and even share the feed pan with the daily grain treat in it.
Nobody else has developed a broken hoof issue. This storm is going to be good timing wise for that. I do hope that we end up with several warmer days afterwards for it to get a bit muddy out there for them to be walking in. That will really help moisten their little piggies up.
We had some visitors to the farm this week also! I am so very happy to see all the deer that came traveling thru! Not too thrilled about this coyote that seems to be hanging around. I’m seeing his/her picture weekly now. So far no attempts on the sheep, so that’s a good thing!
I hope and wish all of you, and yours, a very happy, blessed, and wonderful Thanksgiving. May your turkey be moist, your potatoes have the right amount of lumps, and your gravy has none!
Eat, drink, be merry, and make sure you tell your people you love and cherish them. Time is fleeting!
Blessed Be!
Try drinking an extra cup of coffee, THEN start over with those dratted and persistent circular thoughts/actions. If nothing else, you be moving faster and get it over with sooner 😉😂. You are Not alone in this situation. I just finished my rare second cup of coffee and now feel better prepared to head out for more firewood
Thanks for sharing life on the farm. As a city boy, I don't know that I could cope with all of that. Love the pictures. I'm also grateful you feel you can share your loss. For one thing, many people are thinking about their losses this time of year and it helps to know one is not alone. For another, that's just real as it gets ... and I have never met you but you seem to be a genuine and honest person. That's something else that we all need to see more of. Hope tomorrow is filled with good food, good memories, tears if needed, and of course thankfulness.
