Good day dear readers! I hope this finds you all well this week.
Welcome to the new folks! The flock and I hope you enjoy your visit!
I have a Miss Lucy update for you all.
She is still here with us and showing some improvement. She’s not 100% better, but she’s getting there. Her foot use is at about 60% of the time now. We did lance and drain the gland/abscess on her foot twice and have kept her on antibiotics for now. A bit of puss did come out of the abscess, but it was primary blood. The swelling is down by half as of now. It’s still tender to her when I touch it. I am contemplating lancing it once more and this time, using a trick my vet taught me, injecting antibiotics into the pocket.
Her appetite has improved. Course I’m spoiling her with cookie treats several times a day and hand carried buckets of cool water and orange gatorade for her to dine upon. I’m not having to get her up every few hours as she is doing that “mostly” for herself.
I thank you all for your prayers and good vibes. While we are not out of the woods yet, she is getting better. The terribly hard decision I was facing last week is on hold for now.
Miss Putt Putt’s foot is doing pretty good. After several weeks of having that wrapped, the under toe dried and sealed up enough that we did not have to re wrap it this past weekend. I did end up cutting the broken toe off so she didn’t catch it on something and rip everything apart even worse. She’s out walking around like nothing happened. Score!
Unfortunately, she did stage a big pasture escape yesterday afternoon which garnered me multiple phone calls from the local sheriff’s dispatch, text messages from the local sheriff’s deputy, text’s from my across the street neighbor who was also out driving the road, a visit from the deputy, a state trooper who was also enroute, and the local FB page sending out posts.
Yes, Putt, Aife, DQ, and Bug all decided to go thru the fence and graze along the side of the highway. They created quite the shit show for me. By the time the phone calls hit my phone (I have lousy cell service here) and I found them, they were already back in my yard.
They are a bunch of turds.
Yes, my fencing sucks. Ugh!
If you are looking for a few sheep, I would gladly sell them! Just ignore the fence jumping part while you make your decision.
Actually, I would not sell Putt, she is on par with Lucy. One of the first 3 my Rob gave me. She is a fixture here on the farm until her time ends. Aife and DQ, well, they can go. Bug is too much of a sweetheart and likes to have her nose kissed.
If any of you dear readers plan to be in Wyoming at the end of August, make sure you get to the Glenrock Sheepherders Rendezvous. I will be there and my friend Laurette has graciously offered to share her booth space with me so I can get some fleeces sold.
The whole event is pretty cool. They have restored sheep wagons on display, dutch oven cooking, historic reenactments, vendors, sheep dog trials, music, and various other demo’s and food. I believe this is their 5th year doing this and each year it has grown.
Here is their FB page for information. Glenrock Sheepherders Rendezvous
I have a bit of a game for all of you this week.
Can you guess this object? It is here on my farm. Probably over 100 years old, very heavy, and once served a very useful purpose.
I would love to hear your guess’s as to what it is. You won’t win any big, amazing prize if you get it right, but a hearty round of applause from the flock will grace your ears.
I’ll post next week what it’s name, use is and how I came to have it. No cheating by googling the image! Use your imagination!!
Off I go to check on Lucy and fix some sheep coats!
Blessed Be!
Yay Miss Lucy. Sounds as though you have a bunch of teenagers there!
Any of the law enforcement cute?
As for the picture... it's a BAB (big a .. bell!)
Love you
So good Lucy is improving!! :)
