We are now 4 days into the new year and it appears that our weather has finally caught up to the current winter season.
There was fog here overnight and it left all the trees covered in a layer of frost, they look etherical in the gray morning light. The sheep all had a layer of frost on them this morning too. Miss Brandy had the prettiest frosty eyelashes, but would not stand still long enough for me to get a picture.
Our daily temperatures have dropped from the mid to high 40’s down to the low to mid 30’s during the day and down to almost 0 at night. We have a storm moving in tonight and is expected to hang around thru Sunday. They are not talking about much snow accumulation at the moment, I guess they are waiting to see if the storm track is going to change.
I am spending time today to get things ready around here. Not that there is much to be done at this point in time, since we have already done as much pre preparation as we can do. Michael will bring some milk home when he’s done at work, since that’s the only thing we have run down on in the house.
I got one load of firewood into the house, and I’ll get another one when I go out again to put under the porch for later use. Maybe a third to split between the two spots, depending on how my knees and hip are feeling. Yeah, arthritis!
When it warms up as much as its going to today, then I’ll be moving a bale of hay out into the pasture feeder, topping off water tanks, and getting a few things moved around in the barn so Miss Lucy can go in and be safe there. Can’t have our Miss Lucy getting hurt slipping on the snow and/or ice!
The rest of the sheep will be fine in this weather. This cold weather will ramp up their fleece growing. I’m planning some more coat changes, toe and face trims, for this coming weekend. Some days it’s tough to get all the sheep in the catch pen at one time. A few are very much anti coat change, cus eww people cooties! We have had to have friends come over a few times and act as a moving human wall to get them all down there.
Beyond that, figuring out what to make for dinner, and general housework (UUGGGHHH) I’m going to try to get some weaving time in, or work on the sock machine, and maybe knit more on my son’s hat. Choices choices!
Any ideas for dinner? What are you having?
I would like to ask you, dear readers, if you have any questions about the farm or our life here. I would love to hear them and give you an answer! Feel free to put them in the comments for me!
I need to get a fire going, and jump in the shower to get this day moving again. I kinda farted out after chores this morning.
Blessed Be!
Love the photos! City boy enjoys all your posts!
