Howdy dear readers! I hope this finds you well. Welcome to the new subscribers, pull up a bucket and have some coffee!
Thank you for bearing with me last week. It was rough for sure. If I can make it thru the middle of January, all the anniversaries, holidays, and birthdays will be over for a while.
We got thru the first storm 2 weeks ago quite well. It was not as bad as they had been forecasting, and that was a good thing. We got about 1.5” of rain. No snow, but it sure got cold at night.
The sheep did well thru it, they are nicely insulated at this point, and the cold will trip their bodies into making more wool.
Lucy and Brandy were quite happy in the barn. Brandy was VERY happy to get let back out and showed that glee by racing around the pasture, bucking, kicking, having a good roll in the mud and hollering to the sky.
We got our barn cleaned out, the corral scraped and the ensuing manure laden dirt and hay up to the upper meadow where we have been trying to get grass to grow for 5 years.
It’s barren up there no matter what we have done. Rob disc’d the heck out of it and we did seed with a sheep mix, but no rain and nothing came up. I’m hoping that our poop piles with help.
We also took several loads up to our raised bed boxes so we can amend them. That dirt is getting tired and needs a perking up too.
Another winter storm hit us this week. We got about 1” of rain and then 3-ish” of snow. The ground is nowhere near frozen, and most of the snow melted in yesterday. Good moisture!!!
Lucy and Brandy are back in the barn. Brandy is starting to fluff up some, but still not enough to withstand the wet and cold we had this week. I’ll let them both out today, which I’m sure they will be happy about.
Lucy is being a real goofball. Whenever we go up there to check them, she follows us around the barn with her arthritic hopping walk. I think she is plotting an escape attempt, but just doesn’t have the speed to pull it off. It’s great to see her still so animated.
Now, back to the title of this post.
Yesterday morning the house wolf needed to go outside at 6:45am. And me being the house wolf mom obliged still in my sleep shirt, house coat and slippers. He did his business and we went back to the door.
Can you see where this may be heading?
Outside the back door is a mat for rubbing your dirty boots and shoes on before going inside. Consequently, this mat is usually pretty mucky until I sweep it off or give it a shake.
Well, that didn’t happen before this latest storm. Now it’s mucky and wet. Kinda like sheep snot when they sneeze on your leg.
Yup, the left leg went one direction, the right another and I did a very ungraceful landing on my left hip and shoulder.
Poor house wolf got grabbed on the way down and I think that did something to break the fall. I am grateful he stayed there as I was clutching his back and he didn’t try to run away. Big dogs can be quite useful for things like this.
Oh, and I just missed the door with my head by about a half inch.
I will say that snotty mud was really fricken cold. I took a very short minute to ascertain nothing was seriously busted. House wolf decided that kisses were in order from him.
He’s such a good boy.
With my fake knees, I can’t get up without a struggle, and that is also very ungraceful to watch. Kinda like a beached whale trying to get back out to sea.
Given I was in the muck, my hands were also sliding around as I tried to leaver my ass up. I didn’t hit the ground again thankfully.
House wolf and I got back inside. I just shucked off my clothes and dropped them right in the washing machine. They were pretty well coated in the gook. A hot shower was next, followed by a handful of advil.
I’m pretty sore, but the back spasms seem to have let up. I haven’t looked yet this morning, but I suspect there is a bruise on my backside and shoulder. I’ll let ya know if I get a pretty purple area.
House wolf has been shadowing me more than usual. Maybe he is waiting for round 3!
In case you missed part 1 of this falling down and landing on my ass saga, here it is for your reading pleasure.
I suspect you can see a trend with winter storms and me falling down.
I wish you all a very happy and Blessed Samhain! Happy Halloween!
Blessed Be!
PS I only need 4 more subscribers to hit 500!!! I would really appreciate restacks to get there!!! Thank you for your help! I am grateful for all of you being here to share our life!
Yay happy you were closing in on 500! Bet you’ve made it by now!
I dread the Beached Whale effect! The physical therapy I am getting for my hip, is also strengthening my back and making me more flexible, but the darned kneed are a challenge. Glad you suffered mainly indignity and not more serious injuries. Pictures of dramatic bruises are always better than pictures of casts and pins and such.
