Question, why can't you shear wet sheep? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Not a stupid question at all. Sheep have lanolin on their wool, the clippers get warm from friction when they are used. The heat/friction makes the lanolin soft. When the fleece is wet, it doesn't glide thru the wool and it will bind up the clippers without that soft lanolin.

Might as well have fun while you bust your butt!! What is pretty amazing is that some still do after a few thousand years of domestication and breeding for specific wool properties.
