Dear readers, I apologize for not writing sooner.
I’ve been in a funk for the past week-ish. It doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.
There has been a lot of stress for the past week, work has added to my responsibilities, but not my pay check. I got my shearing date and I’m scrambling to get a crew of folks together for that. I’m damn tired of winter as I face another storm coming in today. My arthritis is kicking my ass because of these up and down weather changes.
So, now that I’m done whining, here are a few updates from previous posts on the farm.
Tally is back in the ram pen with his buds after his eye issue. His eye looks like it made a complete recovery. No more pus, and the cloudiness has gone away. He did seem to enjoy his stay in the hotel barn.
Lucy, well, she’s not recovering as well as I had hoped. I unwrapped her foot after a week to make sure she was not developing any kind of an infection that I could not see. No infection was found. I left her foot unwrapped for a few days, and she stopped walking on it again. The only point tenderness that we found was down in her toes. I suspect she does have a hairline fracture of one or more of the bones down there. There is no swelling, no deformity, no crepitus to be found. But when you palpate the foot/toes, she does flinch, and you can feel some heat in the area. We did wrap her again, and she is starting now to bear some weight on it again. She is still residing in the hotel barn.
Here’s the funny one for you. Remember the druggies who showed up in my yard about a month ago? I ran into one of the cops who responded to the initial call the other day. He asked me if I had heard about the phone call the dispatch got after the druggies drove out. I said no, what was that about? He said the dude who cussed me out did indeed call dispatch, used an assumed name, and said there was a crazy woman with a gun who was threatening them, and that I even told dude to beep beep beep beep. Cops all had a good laugh because they knew it was me.
I hope you all have a great week!
Blessed Be.
Hiding from the World
I had told my son your drug dealer experience, and he howled even more after I showed you in historic garb with your long rifle. You can only imagine the uncontrolled laughter when I told him about the phone call. He can't imagine how stupid those people were to even go on a ranch without following protocol. Living in a rural area, and you have a need to go up to someone's home (ranch or no ranch), you wait by your car for someone to come out, or you knock on the door and step back several yards away from the door. Personally, if I do it, I assume they have a gun, and show respect by standing back and hands in clear sight. I love to play with the grands outside and in the lake, I get dirty. But the one time I had to do an approach was because their cow was almost in the road. To make matters worse I looked like I had just walked out of Talbott's. So, I wasn't scary looking, just inappropriately dressed at the moment. This older black woman answered the door with a look of suspicion, and her hand by the side of the door out of sight I said, "mam' your cow is almost in the road and is going to get hit." She thanked me and went to get the cow back to the pasture. That road is 55 mph if the cow had been hit at that speed all involved would have been dead.
Hang in there. We had more snow this week! Ridiculous! So far extended weather forecast is looking good for us making it out there for shearing, Fingers STILL crossed!
