Another shearing day is in the books. And boy was it a busy one for us! We got the sheep in last Tuesday evening, and it kind of turned into a rodeo for us. The sheep were less than cooperative. We keep them in the barn for a day or three before shearing so they are dry. Thankfully they did dry off after the snow we had over the prior weekend.
The photographs are as wonderful as your narration -- sheep in full wool and their new sleek springtime look, the bruised knee to keep things real, the adorable sweeper to keep things cute. I knew I'd been reading your 'stack for a while when I looked at the first picture and said aloud, "Oh look, there's Brandy horse."
That is fascinating work. Thanks for spelling it out so clearly. I bruise easily so I always keep arnica gel nearby when I'm feeling athletic. It stops the discoloration and pain. And Miss Lucy has the most adorable expression on her face in the close-up.
Wow what a day. Didn't know fake knees could bruise like that. The colors tell the level of pain. Now, if I knew you had Owen I would have somehow made it. He would have to come back with me and be with my 5-year-old grandson OWEN! Little boys at that age absolutely crack me up! I can hardly breathe because of laughing so hard at their conversations and antics. Rest, take care of your bruises and be proud of what you accomplished. I believe that as women we overcome hardship not for ourselves but to be a role model for all those 'little darlings'. When they get a 'fake knee' they will be amazed at how strong you were and are.
I hope the bruises go away! Thank you for an overview of the robust shearing day. It was a treat to read. I hope you could take moments of rest this weekend, in-between the relentless farm chores and other jobs, of course.
Oh, my, woman! Very fine work all around but most especially on your part! All that prep and pre- care only to work even harder hardest on the day. Plus injury and near miss and..!
You are quite something!
Maybe a little topical antiinflammatory cream on those bruises? Arnica or Preparation H, ya know. And here’s wishing you as much rest as you may for a spell, too.
Your flock is wonderful, and they are fortunate sheep’s to have such a good shepherdess taking care of them! That knee makes mine twinge sympathy, just looking at it! Hope it heals up soon!

Love and big respect to you and all your farmful.
What a huge task it is!! I have even more appreciation for all the work required to get the shearing done. May your knee heal quickly. Take care :)

I think I need a nap after reading about your adventures! Thanks for including your description of the lunch!
So much hard work! Hope you are getting some rest. Great pictures and explanation of the most important day. Thank you!
