No comfort food commentary, but I do have skunk advice. I learned from a huntsman at a foxhunt to use Scope to get rid of the smell! You would be AMAZED at how well it works! Soak the stinky pooch in Scope. Let it sit as long as possible. Then bath with soap. By the time they are dry, as long as the Scope got the skunked hair, they will not smell. My dogs have faceplanted in the bum of a skunk 5 times in the past month. The Scope worked every time and the one time I had to use Listerine (because 6 dogs and skunks will go through a lot of Scope and I ran out) did NOT work.
Hey there! (I would have included your name in that greeting if I knew your name...it just didn't seem right to say "Hey there, fat turkey!" haha)
I'm Amy. It's nice to "meet" you. I am so, so, sooooo sorry about your husband's loss. I cannot even imagine!
You're doing what I want to be doing! I don't have a lot of extra time for reading right now, but I'll subscribe and follow along with your adventures when I can find spare moments to engage.
Do you "know" Sarah and her mom at Red Acre Farm in Cedar City, Utah? Sarah's story is a bit like yours; she is still farming after having lost her dad, who was their business partner at their farm. Her farm is super inspiring. I don't think she has a substack, but I can send you her website link, if you want it. Let me know?
I miss her and her farm. I moved away from that area but have yet to find anything comparable local to me.
(And my own efforts at gardening have not been remarkable. So far, the bugs and / or deer have eaten just about everything I planted, which is really a bummer.)
Thanks for all those great comfort food recipes! I see chicken pot pies for sure and maybe Shepard's pie in our near future! Also the fresh potato/mashed potato patties look great! Glad the wild fires are leaving you alone this fall. Where my family is, they have watched the smoke from the Dubois fire, and the horrendous Elk Creek fire in the Big Horns! Having wild turkeys adopt your horses is always a good omen-they know a safe place when thru find it. Enjoy the autumn while you can, before winter clamps down on you!
Those dishes sound so good. My favorite comfort food was one my grandmother made for me. Hamburgers and gravy. No bun, just a seasoned burger patty, mashed potatoes, and a piece of bread torn into pieces, not on top of each other tho I suppose you could do that too, and then cream gravy poured over all of it, so yummy!!! When I went to visit her and she'd ask me what I wanted for supper, it was always that! Hmmmm, I have some hamburger thawed out, guess that's what I will make tomorrow for supper :P. I always think of my grandmother every time I make it. Miss her too.

Hi Amy! It’s nice to meet you and have you join in our adventures. My name is Judy.
Thank you for your condolences. I appreciate it very much.
I’m sorry, I don’t know Sarah. If you have a link handy I would love to take a look.
Blessed Be!
Hi Judy! I very much look forward to reading about your adventures!
Well, oops, I mis-spelled Sara's name. Here's the link to her farm's website: https://www.redacrefarmcsa.org/story

Thank you for the link! I look forward to reading.
If I may ask, where are you located now?
Sorry to hear about your garden. Even with a 5' fence around mine, the deer got in this year and tried to eat all my cucumbers. Naughty deer!!
Oh deer! (haha) How did they defeat your 5' fence? Jumping over it? Yikes!
I'm now in central TX but am probably going to move again soon -- not sure where.
Yup, the mama's jumped and the babies scooted under!
I wish you well on finding your new home!!
I want to eat everything in this post! (Except Miss Lucy).
Be happy to have you to dinner!! I dont think Miss Lucy would like it if you tried to nomm her ear off LMAO!

Not thru, they! Fat fingered the kets again!
All these big fires this year have been just awful! Hope your fall is good to you!!
