This is not to sound callus, but as a non-livestock owner I would be terrified that this could be a weekly occurrence. But what do you do with the bodies? I have been owned by six 50–98-pound Airedales, and I let my vet handle their remains. But horses, cattle, sheep and goats I can't imagine how it hurts but how hard it is to deal with. Too heartbreaking, especially since they have been named and are part of the family.

I dont consider it callus for you to ask, its a very valid point that non livestock owners don't know about. It depends on the laws of your area, some will not permit burial because of ground water issues. I bury my sheep and give them markers in their own cemetery. Same with any dogs or cats that pass. We had two horses pass very close to each other and they were cremated on our property. Same with one cow we had. I do consider them all family. The last horse we lost went to a friend's property and was burned there. We did not have a pit big enough for the body since we had just moved here. The other option is what is commonly called the dead wagon. They come out and get the animal (you pay for removal) and they turn them into dog/cat food.

I swear we live in parallel universes. My elder goat Carrie got herself cast in a mud puddle sometime Monday and I didn’t find her until late. I haven’t said anything about it because I wasn’t sure she was going to recover. Glad Lucy is recovering. These oldies are about to give me ulcers.
