With my excellent planning sense, tomorrow, when we are going to get barely above freezing rain all day, is the day the window guys are supposed to come take out my 66 inch wide by 150 inch tall window made with love by the guy that built this house, but now on the verge of total collapse due to dry rot, and replace it with something generic looking but less wobbly. A few hours, they say. They will call us in the morning to tell us when they will show up. LOL.

Minus 51! I can’t imagine. I grew up in Buffalo though and still remember the night it was minus 32. I’d never seen the stars so clear and it hurt to breathe. I didn’t have to pee in an outhouse though, just run from my parents car to the restaurant.

Sounds like a real fun house. Don’t envy you the gaps, do you get any unwanted visitors?

What comes to my mind, is I'd love to hear the stories that house has to tell.

Me as well. There is a gentleman in my town who did grow up in this house and he keeps telling me he will stop by and spill some secrets!

Okay, your problem with water coming through the ceilings is because of 'ice dams'. This was a totally new concept to me when I lived in New England. I think it has to do with snow melting on the roof and then freezing up by the gutters. The water can't get off the roof so it travels inside and to the ceilings. I would have a small problem every once and awhile. But I had to go to friends' houses and help them drill holes in their ceilings so the whole thing wouldn't crash down. They had to 'rake' their roofs, and yes roof rakes are a thing. You need to keep about a foot+ along the gutter line free of snow and ice, so the water does not dam up.

I would agree with you except that both times it was not cold yet. First time was in the 50’s and second in the 40’s. I will have Michael check both side gutters. They prob need to be cleaned out.

Hey I tried. Besides that, I wanted to see pictures of you with a 10-foot-long roof rake, raking off the snow. Going to be interesting here tomorrow. We already have a flood watch, and maybe 50 mph winds. But New England is going to get slammed. Saw the blizzards out to the west. I think 2024 is going to be a wild one. Good luck with your gutters.

Your advice is excellent. I had not even considered gutters until you said something. I can be dense at times. I hope you are away from the flooding area and can stay safe!!
