These are last spring’s lambs playing with each other before the morning zoomies set in.
This winter weather we have been having this year is just not right.
December was more like fall with the temps mainly staying in the 40’s during the day and just touching on freezing at night. January started out the same and then slid into the 2 week artic blast, which I can only surmise is close to what Siberia feels like.
Now, well now, we are having spring temps. Today is going to be almost 60 here. Furnace is off, no fire in the wood stove, and I’ll be opening the windows here shortly. I did put the farmer clothes on to do chores and in 10 mins I was shucking them off.
It’s January, in northeast Wyoming, and it’s almost 60 degrees.
Mother Nature is having hot flashes.
What I’m seeing with these unusual temps are as follows.
The guard dogs are starting to blow their coats.
Brandy horse is starting to shed.
Grass is coming up already.
Sheep are playing more and we had zoomie races this morning.
I have a fly in my kitchen.
All these are scary signs. So much the wrong time of year for this.
I am fully waiting for this to change, and it will kick us in the ass when it does.
The barn is ready and waiting for animals should that need arise. The sheep will be fine in anything other than an all-out major blizzard. Brandy is another story. She does not like to go in, and she will have to if she loses part or all of her winter fuzz.
These big temperature swings can bring on pneumonia in the flock. I have a few with snotty noses I am watching. So far nobody is acting sick, off their feed, or having problems breathing. Course, I wake up with a snotty nose too, so???
We are several feet below where we should be with the snowpack. Truly, we don’t have much snow now, and what is melting is not making much in the way of mud. It’s more like it’s melting and evaporating, rather than soaking in.
This year’s fire danger is going to be really bad. I think one of our spring projects will be to remove more trees from the pasture and hopefully create a break around the place. Added benefit? Wood to dry out for next winters burning.
I am putting it out to the universe to bring more moisture, just not all at once please!!! OH, and keep those artic temps away, once a year of that is more than enough! The only exception would be to kill any and all flies!
Blessed Be!
Love the glimpse of your flock!
So happy you are including video now!
